AC Schnitzer have announced today that their BMW 335d Coupe is officially the world fastest road legal diesel car. The new world record of the AC Schnitzer BMW 335d was set on the Nardo race track in Italy at 288.7 km/h. This is 8.7 km/h faster that the previous one set in 2006.

Apart from the AC Schnitzer BMW 335d record, the tuner also managed a 303.1 km/h top speed with the BMW Z4 sdrive 35i.

The event that hosted the world record of the AC Schnitzer BMW 335d was organized by CONTINENTAL AG and AUTO BILD sportscars and featured the best tuners.

So, if you had the money, jus how fast could you make a diesel go? Well, German tuning firm AC Schnitzer has the answer for you. They took a crack at BMW’s 335d Coupe and were able to make it into the world’s fastest street legal diesel ride.

AC Schnitzer is a well known German tuning firm that specializes in making BMWs “better”. No, the factory might disagree with some of their methods and tactics, but there’s no denying the results on the time slips.

After giving the Bavarian’s 335d a thorough going over, the German tuning house, has gotten the oil burner to crank around Italy’s Nardo test track at a top speed of 288.7 km/h or 180 mph. Impressive, no? This beats the previous diesel car record by 8.7 km/h.

Unfortunately, AC Schnitzer did not release technical details concerning just what they did to the BMW 335d Coupe, but sources ” … assume that it features the standard 310HP upgrade to the twin-turbocharged straight-six diesel engine.” No, I have no idea what they mean by that exactly either. Has AC Schnitzer done that sort of upgrade in the past? Is it something you could order “off the rack”, so to speak? Does AC Schnitzer ship FedEx?

Schnitzer was busy in southern Italy. The AC Schnitzer modified 335d Coupe was not the only car they were running around Nardo. Along with the 335d Coupe, which is officially called the ACS3 3.5d Coupe, Schnitzer also ran something called the ACS4 3.5 turbo. The starting point for the ACS4 3.5 turbo is the BMW Z4 sDrive 35i. After AC Schnitzer got done with the 360HP hardtop, they were able to hit a top speed of 303.1 km/h or around 188 mph.

AC Schnitzer, the well-known BMW tuning house, has earned the bragging rights for having the world’s fastest street-legal diesel car. The German firm’s BMW 335d-based ACS3 3.5d Coupe reached a top speed of 288.7 km/h or 180 mph at the 13 kilometer-long Nardo test track in southern Italy breaking the previous record set in 2006 by an additional 8.7 km/h.

The tuner did not release technical details on the specific model, but we assume that it features the standard 310HP upgrade to the twin-turbocharged straight-six diesel engine.

Together with the record breaking ACS3 3.5d Coupe, AC Schnitzer also tested the ACS4 3.5 turbo, which is based on the BMW Z4 sDrive 35i, at Nardo. The 360HP hardtop roadster achieved a top speed of 303.1 km/h or about 188 mph, which may not have set a world record, but it’s impressive nevertheless.
