2009 Bentley Azure T V8 6.75L 179 Mph

The Bentley Azure T, specified with the high performance version of Crewe’s iconic 6¾ litre V8 engine, is the latest in a line of Bentley models to bear the ‘T’ legend. The 1996 Continental coupe was the first modern Bentley ‘T’, followed in 2002 by the Arnage T, both flagship models with a distinctive sporting character and thunderous performance.

The Azure’s already striking form is now enhanced by 20-inch 5-spoke wheels and tyres, ‘Le Mans’ front wing vents, dark tint matrix grille and a sculpted, retractable Flying ‘B’ mascot.

For the performance-oriented Bentley Azure T, the twin-turbocharged V8 engine produces 500bhp and 1000 Nm of torque – an 11 per cent increase in power and a 14 per cent increase in torque over its 450bhp/875 Nm Bentley Azure stable mate.

More power and prestige. Those are the big selling points of this new model added to Bentley’s flagship convertible line. The Bentley Azure T stresses performance thanks to the twin-turbo 6.75-liter V-8. With 500 horsepower on tap (an increase of more than 10 percent), the Azure T is capable of a top speed of 179 mph and can sprint to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds and 100 mph in 12.1 sec.

The engine is mated to a smooth-shifting ZF 6-speed automatic transmission, and the Azure T is fitted with a less-intrusive electronic stability control strategy that allows the driver to better enjoy the car’s increased performance.

In addition to the power upgrade, the Azure T sports 20-in. 5-spoke wheels, Le Mans-inspired front fender vents, a dark tinted grille, twin exhaust pipes and a sculpted, retractable Flying B mascot atop the car’s nose.

In keeping with the bespoke nature of range-topping Bentleys, the Azure T is available in 42 exterior colors, while the interior offers a choice of 8 unbleached wood veneers and 25 hides. Cabin accents such as the organ-stop vent controls, mirror adjusters, door handles and other switches feature a new knurled finish to reflect the car’s sporting nature.

Buyers can also opt for the Naim for Bentley premium sound system, which features 10 speakers, a dual-channel subwoofer and an 1100 watt amplifier with eight individual DSP modes to reproduce live concert-like audio.

The Brooklands  has been a help for Bentley in this regard, he said, and the company is hoping for the same from the 2009 Azure T, a higher-performance version of the company’s classic four-place convertible. Bentley decided to unveil the Azure T in L.A., said McCullough, as California typically accounts for about 10 percent of worldwide Azure sales.

As we reported in an earlier news story, the 2009 Bentley Azure T should be suitably frightening to drive, despite the fact that it’s still a big, heavy, old-money convertible at heart. Twin turbos help its 6.75-liter V8 deliver 500 hp at 4,200 rpm and 738 lb-ft of torque at 3,200 rpm. A 5.2-second 0-to-60-mph estimate might sound tame, but hitting the 179-mph top speed in this yacht would undoubtedly be memorable.

The Azure T’s cross-drilled brake rotors are appropriately enormous (16.5 inches across up front, 14 in back). Its 20-inch two-piece wheels are wrapped in 255/40ZR20 Pirelli PZeros — a little on the skinny side for such a powerful car, but big, sloppy burnouts are what you want in an Azure T, not outright grip.
